Director, Payroll

Location: Burlington, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid attendance with four days per week onsite at the headquarters

Salary: $147,000–$184,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead U.S. payroll operations across 25+ states and payroll operations for the UK, Germany, Switzerland, France, and other European jurisdictions.
• Own global payroll governance, compliance, calendars, controls, documentation, provider oversight, and escalated issue resolution.
• Optimize Workday Payroll and partner with Information Technology on HRIS/payroll enhancements, integrations, and issue resolution.
• Manage payroll accounting, accruals, funding, reconciliations, month-end close support, and payroll-related balance sheet oversight.
• Oversee expatriate payroll, tax equalization, shadow payrolls, year-end processes, and statutory reporting.
• Lead, develop, and mentor payroll staff while collaborating with Human Resources, Finance, IT, auditors, and external providers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including significant ownership of multi-state U.S. payroll and multi-country European payroll.
• Experience supporting hourly and salaried employees and coordinating with in-country payroll providers.
• Experience with payroll controls, audit support, process standardization, and payroll system implementations or major enhancements.
• Experience with large-scale ERP systems required; Workday Payroll experience preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills, strong analytical and organizational abilities, and effective cross-functional communication.

Nice to have

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
• Oracle experience.
• Stock plan administration experience, including RSUs, stock options, or ESPP.
• Expatriate payroll and tax compliance experience.
