TL;DR
Firmware Engineering Intern, Winter 2026 (Embedded C/Hardware): Developing and validating embedded software for smart food-recycling products with an accent on hardware integration, sensor control, and system-level testing. Focus on implementing prototype drivers, debugging electromechanical systems, and supporting production launch through collaboration with electrical engineers and product designers.
Location: San Bruno, California; must work 5 days a week in the office
Salary: $35–$45 per hour, excluding benefits and potential equity
Company
develops smart food-waste prevention systems and infrastructure for homes, businesses, and municipalities, including residential food recyclers and the upcoming Commercial solution.
What you will do
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on embedded software development and hardware validation for new products.
- Write, edit, and draft embedded C code to control system components.
- Implement prototype drivers and test them on hardware systems.
- Debug systems during commissioning and support testing activities.
- Work with electrical engineers and product designers to troubleshoot issues and improve system-level performance.
Requirements
- Completed BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
- Ability to work onsite 5 days per week in San Bruno, California.
- Experience writing and testing embedded C to control electromechanical components and read sensors.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
Nice to have
- Experience with embedded Linux systems, preferably Yocto.
- Experience debugging physical hardware with oscilloscopes, network analyzers, or logic analyzers.
- Experience developing for load cells, DC motors, PID controllers, or DC fans.
- Python scripting experience.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for production code.
