Lead Detection & Response Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid role based in Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds, or Manchester, United Kingdom

Salary: £72,702–£80,780 per year

What you will do

• Investigate security alerts, incidents, and emerging threats, driving containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Analyse security events, attacker behaviour, and threat intelligence to identify risks and define response actions.
• Conduct threat hunting, forensic investigations, and proactive cyber defence activities.
• Improve Cyber Defence through the Continuous Detection Continuous Response model, automation, AI, and modern security tooling.
• Lead performance management, objective setting, recruitment, mentoring, and development for Detection and Response Engineers.
• Share technical expertise and lessons learned to raise engineering standards across the Cyber Defence Centre.

Requirements

• Strong experience in a Security Operations Centre, Cyber Defence, Incident Response, Threat Hunting, or a related cybersecurity function.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to build a high-performance and inclusive team culture.
• Understanding of the threat detection lifecycle, attacker behaviour, and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures.
• Experience investigating security events and responding to incidents with enterprise security tools and technologies.
• Knowledge of incident response, threat hunting, detection engineering, threat analysis, or digital forensics.
• Availability to participate in an on-call rota, combined with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
