Senior Software Engineer, Non-Realtime Controllers (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Own device controllers end to end, from API design and implementation through rollout and operational health.
• Build robust services for cryogenic compressors, vacuum pumps, power supplies, lasers, temperature controllers, wavemeters, cameras, and other supporting hardware.
• Bring devices onto the current controller framework and deploy changes across the fleet without disrupting experiments.
• Improve shared controller infrastructure, observability, health checks, and alerting.
• Collaborate with software engineers, systems teams, and quantum scientists who depend on the services.
• Raise code quality through reviews and support the development of less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Senior-level systems engineering experience with Linux-based systems and hardware interfaces.
• Strong Rust experience, or deep proficiency in another systems language with the ability and willingness to work in a Rust codebase and use asynchronous programming.
• Experience designing and operating networked services such as gRPC or REST, including error handling, observability, and failure modes.
• Experience with hardware and instrument protocols such as SCPI, Modbus, serial, and Ethernet.
• Experience owning production behavior and building software that remains reliable against failed or unreliable external dependencies.
• Excellent communication skills across software and scientific disciplines, with an interest in mentoring engineers.
