Engineer III or Senior Engineer: Enterprise System Protection & Control Standards - Distribution (PGO DPAC Enterprise Standards & Governance)

Location: Charlotte, NC; hybrid work from remote and onsite locations after onboarding, with residence within a reasonable commute to the designated hirify.global facility required.

What you will do

• Develop standards, application guides, position statements, settings, logic, and control templates for distribution system protection and automation.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for protective relays, reclosers, switchgear, controls, and automation devices.
• Test protection and control concepts in relay laboratories, during factory acceptance testing, and through field commissioning.
• Integrate sensing, control, communications, and protection capabilities into technical standard solutions for distribution systems.
• Support an enterprise-wide protection and control settings repository and contribute to training and work-method documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, asset management, standards, and regional DPAC teams while providing mentorship and peer leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a qualifying master’s degree; senior-level candidates may qualify with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
• Engineer III: at least 4 years of related experience. Senior Engineer: at least 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with Professional Engineer registration.
• Knowledge of system protection and control for medium-voltage systems in the 4kV–36kV range and experience with protection and coordination studies.
• Experience with protection and automation systems, relay settings and logic, peer-to-peer communications, SCADA, IEC 61850 GOOSE, or DNP3.0.
• Experience with relay testing, commissioning, factory or field acceptance testing, and integration of distribution equipment and systems.
• Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience with SEL relays and RTACs, SEL QuickSet, Omicron or Doble test equipment, and related configuration software.
• Familiarity with NESC, NEC, NFPA 70, ANSI, IEEE, and utility protection and automation standards.
• Transmission protection and control, distribution field engineering, or integration experience with power plants, distributed energy resources, or major customer facilities.
