Business Operations Manager at IT & Climate NGO (Remote | English)

What you will do

• Own and improve organization-wide operational processes, documentation, governance, and knowledge-management systems.
• Maintain risk registers, policies, compliance records, and business-continuity initiatives.
• Own the ISO 27001 management system and coordinate internal audits, evidence collection, corrective actions, external audits, and accreditation renewals.
• Coordinate cross-functional operational initiatives and manage the use of OpenProject across teams.
• Manage vendor assessment, onboarding, reviews, reassessments, and ongoing relationships.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, automation, and AI-enabled efficiency, and provide operational recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

• Location: Must be based in Southern Africa or Eastern Europe
• At least 8 years of experience in business operations, operational excellence, governance, compliance, project management, business administration, or a related field.
• Experience maintaining operational processes, governance documentation, compliance records, risk registers, and ISO management systems or similar frameworks.
• Experience coordinating complex cross-functional initiatives, external audits, vendors, and multiple stakeholders.
• Strong project management, organization, written communication, attention to detail, and independent working skills.
• Fluent English is mandatory; the role operates in a remote and asynchronous environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST CSF, operational tooling, workflow automation, or documentation platforms.
• Experience in open-source, energy-sector, nonprofit, donor-funded, or fast-growing IT organizations.
• Experience working in a diverse distributed team or reporting directly to senior leadership.
• German language proficiency.
• A degree in business administration, operations management, project management, governance, compliance, or a related field.
