Sr. Paralegal (Insurance Defense)

Location: California — Sacramento, 333 University Ave; hybrid work available in Sacramento or the Bay Area.

Salary: $62,500–$115,500 annually. Expected starting salary: $62,500–$93,500.

What you will do

• Provide pre-trial and trial support for litigated commercial and personal lines insurance matters.
• Draft, review, file, and serve pleadings, motions, discovery responses, subpoenas, and document production materials.
• Research legal issues, summarize medical records, and prepare medical chronologies and deposition summaries.
• Coordinate depositions, hearings, meetings, communications with clients and expert witnesses, and case follow-up workflows.
• Assemble exhibits, binders, and appendices; review court dockets and retrieve case information.
• Support litigation technology initiatives and help attorneys move cases toward trial or resolution.

Requirements

• Typically five years of experience in a paralegal capacity involving insurance-related litigation.
• Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance defense and/or subrogation law, legal concepts, terminology, and processes.
• Experience with court filing and scheduling procedures, federal and state e-filing systems, and e-Court systems.
• Strong research, organizational, written, verbal, communication, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise independent judgment, and comply with applicable corporate, ethical, and state legal practice policies.
• Paralegal studies certification is strongly preferred; undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance, or a related field are preferred.

Nice to have

• Insurance defense experience involving commercial auto, premises, property, liability, trucking, products liability, wrongful death, or uninsured/underinsured motorist matters.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and case management databases such as Legal Files.
• Knowledge of personal and commercial lines insurance policies.
