Staff Risk Expert (AI and Cybersecurity)

Location: Herndon, Virginia, United States; onsite at the Herndon Home Office

Salary: $132,000–$264,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation

What you will do

• Develop and review technology, AI, and information security policies and standards.
• Identify, assess, document, and monitor policy and governance risks.
• Maintain risk registers, track remediation activities, and escalate issues.
• Strengthen policy ownership, lifecycle governance, exception workflows, and accountability.
• Translate legal, regulatory, audit, security, technology, and business expectations into practical requirements.
• Use AI, automation, and workflow tools to improve governance quality, consistency, efficiency, and adoption.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related area, plus 4 years of cybersecurity risk experience; or 6 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in cybersecurity risk or a related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
• Knowledge of technology controls, compliance standards, emerging risks, and policy development.
• Experience with risk assessments, risk registers, remediation tracking, and governance process improvement.
• Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across legal, audit, business, security, and technology teams.

Nice to have

• Security+, GISF, GSEC, CISA, CISSP, or CISM certification.
• Master’s degree and experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
