Underwriting Specialist, Casualty

Location: Toronto, Canada; primarily in the office

Salary: CAD 85,000–116,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus

What you will do

• Underwrite customer exposure across primary, international, and excess General Casualty lines.
• Service renewal business and solicit new opportunities in the Canadian market.
• Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions in line with risk appetite and product guidelines.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, and deal structures with brokers and clients.
• Build long-term broker and client relationships while growing a profitable book of business.
• Mentor and train other underwriters and participate in special underwriting projects.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of Commercial Casualty experience.
• Advanced knowledge of a specific Casualty line, including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and risks.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience in sales, marketing, relationship building, and broker or client service.
• Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment and stay current with industry, legal, and regulatory trends.
