Algorithm Scientist (Biosignal Processing)

Location: Hybrid, based out of the San Francisco office, United States. Candidates residing in Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wisconsin are not being considered.

Salary: $151,300–$178,000 per year, depending on location, skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions.

What you will do

• Develop, refine, and benchmark signal-processing and machine-learning algorithms for multimodal biosignals such as PPG, motion, and temperature.
• Clean noisy signals, reduce noise, extract features, and integrate time-series data across sensing modalities.
• Analyze prototype sensor, evaluation-kit, and benchtop data to assess signal integrity and algorithmic feasibility.
• Explore relationships between physical signal features and physiological states.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams to improve sensor performance and data-collection pipelines.
• Document technical findings, present experimental results, and communicate data-driven insights.

Requirements

• 2–4+ years of practical experience, including advanced-degree research, in biosignal processing, time-series analysis, or sensor fusion.
• Strong Python and scientific-computing skills with NumPy, SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn, and PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Understanding of human physiological systems and biosensing techniques.
• Experience working with noisy real-world time-series data and designing robust preprocessing pipelines.
• Master’s degree or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Signal Processing, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Ability to explain complex data, methodologies, and technical results clearly to cross-functional colleagues.

• Experience with consumer health products, wearable sensors, or digital health applications.
• Experience rapidly prototyping, testing, iterating, and adapting approaches based on empirical feedback.
• Proactive identification of data anomalies, technical blockers, and data-driven research opportunities.
