Forward Deployed Research Scientist (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; in-person at the San Francisco HQ 5 days a week, with one company-wide remote week per month

Salary: $220,000–$315,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Conduct original interpretability research directly with customers and partners.
• Lead research projects focused on interpreting advanced models.
• Prototype techniques to visualize and manipulate internal model structures.
• Define problems and hypotheses, source data, build tools, iterate, and implement solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering to turn research into production-ready tools.
• Help define and evolve the company’s research direction.

Requirements

• MS, PhD, or equivalent experience in computer science.
• Strong machine learning background and experience in interpretability.
• Deep familiarity with large models and how they work.
• Fluency in Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Strong writing and communication skills for explaining complex ideas.
• Drive to move quickly, take ownership, and deliver results.
