BNSF Tech Summer Intern 2027 (Remote - US)

Location: Remote within the contiguous 48 states of the United States; up to 20% business travel required. Training begins with a two-day in-person orientation at the corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

What you will do

• Write production-quality code for defined tasks and follow team coding standards.
• Develop APIs, automation, tools, and services that improve platform integration and rail network operations.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests, debug issues, and improve code based on feedback.
• Build monitoring and alerting systems and collaborate with application teams to improve reliability and performance.
• Design and operate scalable systems across data centers, edge devices, and cloud environments.
• Contribute to distributed computing, large-scale predictions, and technology solutions for freight rail.

Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship, including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN sponsorship.
• Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
• Have fewer than three years of professional work experience, excluding internships, part-time jobs, and positions held while studying.
• Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.
• Ability to learn technical concepts quickly, work cross-functionally, and communicate with stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Prior internship or limited professional experience in technology or software engineering.
• Familiarity with React, Angular, Node, or Spring Boot.
