Principal Security Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid schedule with three days per week onsite in the San Francisco FiDi or Culver City office.

Salary: $203,000–$285,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow the security operations and detection-and-response team.
• Own the 24x7 security monitoring strategy with a managed detection and response provider.
• Run incident response from detection through containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident review.
• Define and report SecOps metrics and service-level agreements, including MTTD, MTTR, alert quality, and coverage.
• Mature detection engineering, threat-intelligence ingestion, and SOAR response automation.
• Drive tabletop and purple-team exercises and partner with Cloud, IT, and Engineering to close monitoring gaps.

Requirements

• 6+ years of security operations experience, including 2+ years leading or managing a SOC or detection-and-response team.
• Hands-on incident response and investigations in a cloud-first environment.
• Experience with SIEM platforms such as Datadog or Splunk, EDR/MDR tools such as CrowdStrike or SentinelOne, and AWS cloud telemetry.
• Experience managing an MDR/MSSP or incident-response retainer relationship.
• Technical aptitude across AWS, Kubernetes, SIEM query languages, detection-as-code, and Terraform.
• A relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, together with strong communication, ownership, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated environments, SEC/FINRA, fintech, or financial services.
• Experience building a 24x7 SOC or transitioning to managed detection and response.
• Certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, GCIA, or GCFA.
