TL;DR
Mental Health Clinician (Mental Health): Providing direct mental health assessment, triage, support planning, and referral pathways for university students with an accent on complex wellbeing concerns, risk assessment, and confidential case management. Focus on responding to deteriorating mental health, connecting students with appropriate internal and external services, and strengthening student support through service trend analysis.

Location: Auckland City Campus, Auckland, New Zealand

Salary: NZ$93,201–NZ$107,500 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

What you will do

  • Provide direct support to students presenting with personal, wellbeing, or mental health concerns.
  • Manage and triage referrals and concerns from students and staff.
  • Gather information, assess risk, and develop support plans and referral pathways.
  • Connect students with self-help resources and appropriate internal or external specialist services.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, reports, and confidential records.
  • Build relationships with university teams and community providers, and identify opportunities to improve the service.

Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent in mental health, social work, nursing, occupational therapy, or a related field.
  • Valid registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act, such as NCNZ or Social Worker Registration, is required.
  • At least four years of experience providing mental health support to students or young people.
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting students and young people, with confidence handling sensitive matters.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural competence, understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and confidence using Microsoft Office and university systems.

  • Experience working in a tertiary environment and understanding of student needs.
