Senior Manager, Data Engineering (AI)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; at least 3 days per week in the office. The role requires 5–10% travel and is performed in an office setting.

Salary: $192,100–$307,800 USD per year, with potential bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentoring to a team of 8–10 engineers.
• Lead architecture, planning, development, deployment, and technical direction for assigned products.
• Design and implement secure, reliable, performant data platforms and distributed systems.
• Own customer engagement, manage expectations, drive adoption, and serve as the primary technical contact.
• Establish data processes, automations, big data systems, data-quality practices, and machine learning pipelines.
• Partner with product, QA, operations, risk, compliance, security, and geographically distributed engineering teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience with an advanced degree or PhD; 11+ years may substitute for the degree requirement.
• Experience managing engineering teams, mentoring engineers, and leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
• 5+ years of experience with big data technologies such as Hive, Hadoop, and Spark.
• 5+ years of experience with Java, Scala, or Python, plus experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with graph databases, RESTful APIs, machine learning, GenAI/LLMs, and enterprise-scale distributed systems.
• Strong communication, presentation, architectural leadership, technical planning, and measurable-outcome delivery skills.

Nice to have

• Experience leading initiatives that use GenAI to improve engineering-team efficiency.
• Experience delivering large-scale projects with quantifiable business outcomes from inception through delivery.
