Master Thesis Student (Autonomous Systems) (Machine Learning/Navigation): Researching and evaluating data-driven methods to improve the robustness and reliability of autonomous aircraft navigation with an accent on real-world flight data, simulation, and safety-critical applications. Focus on analysing sensor data, developing and validating machine-learning approaches, integrating selected concepts into the navigation framework, and comparing them with model-based methods.

Location: On-site in Gilching, Bavaria, Germany

What you will do

  • Research and evaluate data-driven methods for safety-critical navigation applications.
  • Analyse real-world sensor and flight-test data to identify patterns, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop, train, and validate approaches in simulation and prototyping environments.
  • Compare data-driven solutions with established model-based methods using representative scenarios and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with Navigation, Software, and Flight-Test departments and integrate selected concepts into the navigation framework.
  • Document findings and communicate results through technical discussions, presentations, and a master’s thesis.

Requirements

  • Currently studying robotics, aerospace engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • Practical experience with machine learning, data analysis, signal processing, state estimation, or autonomous systems.
  • Interest in autonomous systems, aviation, robotics, and emerging technologies.
  • Strong self-motivation, independence, and communication skills.
  • English communication is required.
