Software Engineer Intern (AI)

Location: Hybrid; candidates must be based in the US, with a strong preference for working from the NYC or DC offices during the summer

What you will do

• Build and improve document search, review, and AI-powered agent workflows.
• Develop reliable user-facing features in the Next.js and React application.
• Create backend APIs, data models, and workflow execution paths for responsive product experiences.
• Contribute to the architecture and implementation of production systems, including document-processing pipelines and database scaling.
• Own meaningful features from problem definition through implementation and collaborate with engineers, product teammates, and users.

Requirements

• US citizenship is required because the role supports US government contract obligations and ITAR/EAR export control regulations.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, software engineering ability, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and ability to work across the Python and TypeScript/React stack.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a product-minded, high-ownership approach.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, TypeScript, React, Next.js, backend systems, APIs, databases, or distributed systems.
• Experience with LLMs, AI agents, RAG, document processing, search, or retrieval systems.
• Previous software engineering internship, shipped software, open-source contributions, research, technical clubs, hackathons, or substantial personal projects.
• Startup experience or interest in defense, intelligence, national security, and other complex operational domains.
• Active or current security clearance.
