Senior Engineer / Technical Lead (Java)

Location: Wellington, New Zealand; work model prioritizes in-person collaboration.

What you will do

• Lead a team of software engineers in designing, developing, and delivering software solutions.
• Develop, design, debug, and review software using Java, J2EE, Spring, Oracle technologies, web services, Vue, and DevOps tools.
• Oversee delivery progress, identify risks, and address issues affecting project timelines.
• Collaborate with architects, senior engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements and ensure quality delivery.
• Mentor team members through regular one-on-one meetings and performance assessments.
• Participate in application support and the on-call roster when required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Typically 7+ years of relevant industry experience, including at least 3 years in a similar role.
• Experience managing software engineering teams or projects.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages and development methodologies.
• Strong programming, debugging, communication, and team leadership skills.
• Ability to manage software projects and resources effectively.

Nice to have

• Oracle Cloud Infrastructure experience.
• An advanced degree, relevant certifications, or additional training.
