Focus on designing numerical methods and constraint solvers, coupling heterogeneous physics, accelerating Python kernels across CPU and GPU backends, and validating results against analytical models, other engines, and real-world data.

What you will do

  • Develop production-ready physics simulation capabilities for robot-learning pipelines.
  • Improve simulation speed through adaptive fidelity, larger stable timesteps, and structure-aware solvers.
  • Expand multi-physics coverage across rigid bodies, deformable materials, fluids, particles, cloth, and other physical systems.
  • Improve fidelity, scalability, and two-way coupling between heterogeneous solvers.
  • Write Python-based physics kernels accelerated across CUDA, AMD ROCm, Apple Metal, Vulkan, x86, and ARM64 backends.
  • Validate methods using analytical closed forms, cross-engine comparisons, and real-world data.

Requirements

  • Strong background in physics-based simulation, preferably in robotics, including RBD, FEM, MPM, SPH, IPC, XPBD, VBD, or ABD.
  • Experience with constrained optimization and numerical integration of stiff systems.
  • Track record of shipping simulation code used by others in an engine, industrial environment, or research codebase.
  • Solid CPU and/or GPU high-performance computing experience.
  • Ability to assess numerical methods based on their practical performance, not only their theoretical complexity.
  • Rigor in analytical, cross-engine, and real-world validation.

Nice to have

  • Publications in simulation, graphics, or robotics venues such as SIGGRAPH, ICRA, IROS, CoRL, or RSS.
  • Contributions to an open-source physics engine.
