Firmware Engineer Intern (Embedded Systems)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for data center, AI, SSD, DSP, networking, and security hardware.
• Design device drivers and firmware features for SPI, I2C, I3C, UART, MDIO, PCIe, and NVMe communication protocols and RTOS-based systems.
• Build automation scripts in Python and shell for testing, failure analysis, and infrastructure management.
• Develop provisioning software and trusted firmware stacks using secure protocols, cryptography, and hardware security technologies.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, QA, and customer solutions teams on integration, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Design and execute unit, system, and integration tests, support lab testing, analyze data, and manage fixes through issue tracking systems.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with expected graduation between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
• Proficiency in Python and/or C.
• Understanding of computer architecture, networking fundamentals, and/or embedded systems.
• Comfort working in Windows or Linux development environments.
• Strong problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Eligibility to access export-controlled technology under applicable U.S. export control laws may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Git, GitHub, Gerrit, Makefiles, GDB, IDEs, and Bash.
• Knowledge of ARM, RISC-V, TrustZone, Caliptra, Trusted Firmware, RTOS architecture, or device drivers.
• Experience with security protocols, cryptography, DSP concepts, Ethernet, SERDES, switches, routers, or networking fundamentals.
• Experience with Jenkins CI, regression planning, GUI development, lab automation, customer SDKs, unit testing, and debugging tools.
