Software Test Co-op Student (Sonar) (Marine Sonar Systems): Verifying and validating desktop, embedded, and system-level software used to configure, control, monitor, and test underwater sonar systems with an accent on manual testing, automated test development, and hardware-software integration. Focus on executing functional, regression, integration, and acceptance tests, troubleshooting defects, and validating software releases in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Location: Onsite at the Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada office

hirify.global Discovery Canada develops marine electronics and subsea sonar systems for positioning, surveying, navigation, and other marine applications.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute manual test procedures for desktop, embedded, and system-level software.
  • Create and maintain automated test scripts and test frameworks.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and acceptance testing for sonar control and monitoring software.
  • Report, track, verify, and troubleshoot software defects with engineering teams.
  • Support software release validation and hardware-software integration testing using laboratory sonar and electronics equipment.
  • Maintain test documentation, validation records, and reports while contributing to test process improvements.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related degree program.
  • Completed the third or fourth year of study and eligible for a co-op work term.
  • Knowledge of software development and testing principles.
  • Programming experience in one or more of Python, C++, C#, or Java.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing automated tests, test scripts, or using test management and issue tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with software quality assurance, verification, and validation practices.
  • Exposure to hardware-software integration, embedded systems, networking, serial communications, or instrumentation interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and LLM-based coding analysis or test tools.
  • Interest in robotics, marine technology, sensors, sonar systems, or related technologies.
