Reporter (Payments/Fintech)

Location: Newton, Massachusetts, United States. The role is hybrid, with in-person work in the Newton office three days a week or more and flexibility to work remotely at other times.

Salary: $70,000–$80,000 per year, based on experience.

What you will do

• Produce breaking news, enterprise reporting, daily briefs, and in-depth features for the Payments Dive website and newsletter.
• Cover business, financial, regulatory, legislative, corporate strategy, earnings, and agency developments in the payments industry.
• Identify original storylines, pitch standout pieces, track down scoops, and execute both rapid and longer-term assignments.
• Build relationships with industry, government, and other sources while developing knowledge of the payments beat.
• Collaborate with editors and journalists on assignments, story editing, newsletters, and larger editorial projects.
• Track analytics to understand which stories resonate with readers and support innovative newsroom projects.

Requirements

• At least three years of writing and reporting experience with a strong track record in a fast-paced news environment.
• Strong writing, reporting, digital news, information-finding, and deadline-management skills.
• Ability to interpret financial reports, legal documents, SEC filings, government regulations, and complex business topics.
• Ability to build relationships with industry and government sources and develop a deep understanding of payments.
• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in journalism, English, or a similar field.
• Ability to work from the Newton office three days a week or more.
