Payments & Fraud Analyst (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. Candidates must reside in the area or be willing to relocate; relocation assistance may be available.

US base salary: $144,000–$162,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own fraud detection and mitigation, payments operations, and risk assessment from strategy through execution and post-launch measurement.
• Lead complex fraud investigations, perform root cause analyses, and propose rule improvements and cross-functional actions.
• Write SQL queries against large fraud and payments datasets.
• Build reporting, monitoring dashboards, and alerts using tools such as Mode and Datadog.
• Program-manage initiatives with Engineering, Legal, Payments Strategy, Product, and Revenue teams.
• Assess fraud exposure in new product launches and communicate business impact to stakeholders.

Requirements

• 4–5+ years of experience in payments, fraud, or risk operations.
• Hands-on knowledge of card network rules, including Visa, Mastercard, and Amex, as well as chargebacks and dispute processes.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience analyzing large datasets.
• Experience building reporting and monitoring workflows with BI and alerting tools such as Mode or Datadog.
• Ability to independently own an end-to-end function, execute mid-size programs, and make trade-off decisions in ambiguous situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus experience mentoring team members or serving as a technical resource.
