TL;DR
Staff Technical Specialist (GNSS): Defining, designing, and validating automotive GNSS hardware and system solutions for connectivity and compute platforms with an accent on RF front-end design, vehicle-level performance, and supplier technology evaluation. Focus on developing conducted and vehicle-level test strategies, solving interference and coexistence challenges, and validating GNSS performance in demanding driving environments.

Location: Hybrid, with reporting to a specific location at least 3 times per week; Sunnyvale, California or Warren, Michigan. Relocation benefits are available for qualifying candidates.

Base compensation: $160,000–$245,000 per year; incentive pay may also be available.

Company

hirify.global develops vehicles and connectivity technologies focused on zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.

What you will do

  • Define end-to-end GNSS hardware and system requirements covering RF front-end, baseband, timing, antenna interfaces, sensitivity, accuracy, availability, TTFF, and jamming/spoofing resilience.
  • Translate product and vehicle requirements into hardware, design, interface, and test specifications, and own GNSS sections of technical documentation.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews with product, systems, RF, hardware, vehicle integration, validation, suppliers, and purchasing teams.
  • Evaluate GNSS chipsets, modules, RF components, antenna solutions, supplier proposals, test procedures, and technology roadmaps.
  • Guide schematics, PCB layout, RF integration, antenna interfaces, EMC/EMI analysis, and coexistence with cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and UWB.
  • Define and execute conducted RF and vehicle-level tests, including automation, drive routes, scenario definitions, data analysis, root-cause investigation, and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in GNSS and/or RF hardware design, system integration, or validation.
  • Strong knowledge of GNSS systems and standards, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, and SBAS.
  • Experience translating system-level performance requirements into detailed hardware, design, and test specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, GNSS simulators/recorders, power meters, and related RF test equipment.
  • Experience with schematic design and PCB layout review for RF/GNSS circuits, plus working knowledge of link budgets, noise figure, gain, linearity, filters, and matching networks.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers and purchasing on technical evaluations, design reviews, and roadmap alignment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills, including presenting technical topics to engineering and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Automotive GNSS experience, including vehicle-level integration and validation.
  • Experience with GNSS coexistence and mitigation for cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and UWB systems.
  • Knowledge of automotive EMC/EMI and applicable RF regulatory standards.
  • Experience with HFSS, CST, ADS, MATLAB, Python, or similar RF simulation, system modeling, test automation, and data analysis tools.
  • GNSS antenna design or integration experience, including active antenna systems and multi-band configurations.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work arrangement with regular onsite attendance.
  • Health, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, retirement savings, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation and holidays.
  • Tuition assistance, employee assistance, and GM vehicle discounts.
  • Eligible participants may receive a GM vehicle for evaluation, with a requirement to purchase or lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless an exception applies.
