Senior R&D Technician I (Medical Devices)

Location: Libertyville, Illinois, US. Hybrid work with a minimum of 4 days per week in the office.

Salary: $50,000–$70,000 yearly

What you will do

• Conduct laboratory testing, experiments, simulations, and feasibility studies using established methods, protocols, and safety procedures.
• Build, modify, troubleshoot, and evaluate product prototypes, materials, fixtures, and test setups.
• Support test method development and validation, including Gage R&R studies and evaluation of alternative methods.
• Document observations, results, deviations, experiments, and development activities in laboratory records and electronic systems.
• Operate, clean, inspect, and perform routine preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment while maintaining safe work areas.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and project teams; provide technical support and informal guidance to junior laboratory personnel.

Requirements

• Associate's degree and 4–6 years of related experience.
• Working knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, standards, and safety practices.
• Ability to use laboratory equipment, tools, fixtures, and materials to build and evaluate prototypes with limited direction.
• Technical problem-solving, experimental design, data integrity, organization, and escalation judgment.
• Strong verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to lift, pull, or push up to 30 pounds.

Nice to have

• Experience with FTIR spectroscopy, DSC, HPLC, gas chromatography, microscopy, mixing technology, or tensile-testing equipment.
• Familiarity with leak testers, heat sealers, medical device quality and regulatory systems, and new product development laboratories.
• Knowledge of CAD, robotics, or laboratory instrumentation.
