Associate Portfolio Manager- Small-Cap (U.S. Small-Cap Value)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts; in-office at least four days per week, with the option to work from home one day per week.

Base salary: $165,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential variable compensation.

What you will do

• Support the Lead Portfolio Manager in the daily management of the Columbia Small Cap Value Discovery and Columbia Small Cap VIP funds.
• Conduct deep-dive fundamental equity research across small- and micro-cap U.S. companies.
• Build and maintain institutional-grade research using financial data, SEC filings, transcripts, NDRs, research trips, and management engagement.
• Track operational and financial metrics across covered companies over multiple quarters.
• Develop financial models, price targets, and actionable investment recommendations.
• Improve the quality and efficiency of the team’s research process by incorporating new research tools and technology.

Requirements

• Approximately 5–10 years of buy-side equity research experience.
• Strong financial modeling skills and experience conducting primary-source analysis.
• Ability to cover a broad range of small-cap companies across sectors and market cycles.
• Ability to communicate investment rationale effectively to portfolio managers and the trading team.
• Valid U.S. work authorization without current or future visa sponsorship requirements.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and work primarily from the Boston office.

Nice to have

• MBA or CFA designation.
• Experience presenting investment ideas and investment philosophy to clients and consultants.
