Technical Application Specialist (Clinical Microbiology)

Location: Remote from the Chicago and surrounding regions; candidate must reside in the territory. The role requires 75% travel, including overnight travel, within the territory.

Salary: $90,000–$105,000 annual salary, plus bonus/incentive pay.

What you will do

• Partner with clinical laboratories to provide hands-on technical support and improve workflow and patient outcomes.
• Lead implementation of MicroScan analyzers and customer-driven plans supporting antimicrobial stewardship and faster turnaround times.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation, consumables, software, and laboratory workflow issues in collaboration with laboratory staff.
• Introduce strategies that reduce manual work and improve laboratory efficiency across integrated hardware, software, IT, and LIS environments.
• Collaborate with sales teams, laboratory leaders, service staff, and medical directors to support solution adoption, implementation, and regional growth.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Clinical laboratory or technical applications experience, including hands-on system or consumables troubleshooting.
• Understanding of verification and validation for consumables, instrumentation, or workflows.
• Ability to collaborate with clinical microbiology laboratory staff, from bench technologists to laboratory leadership and medical directors.
• Strong presentation and communication skills for explaining technical information and product value to diverse audiences.
• Residence in the assigned territory, willingness to travel 75% including overnight travel, a valid driver’s license with an acceptable record, and ability to lift up to 40 pounds are required.

Nice to have

• Experience as a Microbiology Medical Technologist or Clinical Lab Scientist in clinical microbiology.
• Experience with automated identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing systems.
• Experience with basic hardware, software, IT, and LIS concepts and teams.
