What you will do

• Provide accurate Haitian Creole and English interpretation for patients, families, and medical providers.
• Interpret consent forms, diagnoses, medical procedures, discharge plans, and other patient-related information.
• Deliver interpretation in person, by video, and by telephone throughout the hospital system.
• Prioritize emergency and urgent requests and support patients from entry through discharge.
• Maintain accurate service records, process assignments, and follow Interpreter Services protocols.
• Act as a cultural broker and refer patients or providers to appropriate resources when needed.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working as a medical interpreter.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Haitian Creole is required.
• Certificate of completion from a medical interpreter training program is required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, diagnostic procedures, treatments, interpreter ethics, and standards of practice.
• Strong concentration, organization, interpersonal, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision and complete required competency assessments.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in a human relations field such as sociology or psychology.
• National medical interpreter certification.
