Screenwriter (3D Animation)

Location: Sunnyvale, California; preference for candidates in California. Remote or hybrid work is possible, with travel required for major events. No relocation support is offered.

Compensation: $60 per hour for a two-month contract, with potential extension based on business needs.

What you will do

• Brainstorm, outline, write, and develop a five-minute 3D animated short film from a story outline.
• Research the setting, characters, themes, and relevant film inspiration.
• Create character briefs, set and environment descriptions, theme and tone guidance, and other script-supporting materials.
• Write supplementary content, including character sketches for social media and behind-the-scenes making-of content.
• Develop an engaging story that uses stylized animation to convey adult themes and integrates company values authentically.
• Finalize the production script and collaborate with the creative director and storyboard artists during animation pre-production.

Requirements

• Strong writing portfolio demonstrating impactful storytelling for adult audiences.
• Experience writing short stories for original intellectual properties.
• Developed sense of humor and ability to add modern adult comedy to emotional, hard-hitting stories.
• Knowledge of and experience with the 3D animation production process.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills across film development and production.
• Motivation to create authentic, impactful work and follow the story through animation production.

Nice to have

• 4–7 years of experience writing short-form narrative content.
• Experience writing for animated features or short films.
• Experience creating short-form social media content, including character sketches.
• Experience with product launches or startup environments.
• Basic knowledge of computer graphics and graphics technology.
