TL;DR
DoW Audit Remediation Consultant (Federal Audit and Financial Remediation): Supporting Department of the Navy audit response, remediation, internal controls, and financial process analysis with an accent on stale obligation investigation, GAAP compliance, and data analytics. Focus on reconciling unliquidated obligation balances, identifying root causes and corrective actions, coordinating with finance, procurement, and IT teams, and directing consultant-level work.

Location: Alexandria, Virginia, United States. Work location may change based on client requirements; travel up to 25% is required. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or higher security clearance and therefore requires U.S. citizenship.

Salary: $80,000–$140,000 per year, plus potential bonuses and benefits.

What you will do

  • Support Department of the Navy audit response, audit remediation, internal controls, financial processes, and accounting activities.
  • Manage project plans, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and communicate project status to clients and internal teams.
  • Investigate stale obligation balances, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions for targeted unliquidated obligations.
  • Analyze end-to-end procurement and transaction workflows, including feeder system data and obligations.
  • Integrate data analytics and automation into project work and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Train and support end users while directing and reviewing the work of Consultants and Senior Associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of progressive, relevant experience.
  • Experience with Department of the Navy clients and financial statement auditing, audit remediation, or audit readiness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analytics tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret or higher security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting deobligations of targeted stale obligations at Department of the Navy agencies.
  • Experience with the Department of the Navy’s Advana platform and Working Capital Fund clients.
  • Experience independently researching data and reconciling variances.
  • CPA, CISA, CIA, CGFM, or CDFM certification.
