Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Food Packaging)

Location: Deer Park, New York, USA; onsite role

Base salary: $125,000–$130,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the redesign and modernization of food packaging machinery into standardized, modular mechanical platforms.
• Design mechanical systems for sealing, motion mechanisms, film handling, dosing, filling, and capping applications.
• Create 3D CAD models, detailed assemblies, engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, material selections, and drawing packages.
• Apply sanitary design, DFM, and DFA principles to create manufacturable equipment for washdown and high-throughput environments.
• Direct prototype builds, functional testing, validation, FATs, SATs, and customer acceptance testing.
• Lead technical reviews, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with electrical, controls, automation, manufacturing, quality, operations, and service teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a similar engineering or technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with packaging machinery, food processing equipment, or industrial automation.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD tools; Inventor is preferred.
• Experience with DFM/DFA, machine frames, pneumatics, filling, sealing, or capping systems.
• Knowledge of sanitary and hygienic design requirements, food-contact materials, washdown zones, and 3-A or USDA food equipment standards.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; employment eligibility is verified through E-Verify.
