Senior Scientist, Drug Product Development (Small Molecules)

Location: South San Francisco, CA, United States; onsite with three to five days per week in the lab. Remote applicants are not being considered.

Salary: $139,000–$169,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Develop pre-formulation packages and formulations for small-molecule drug candidates, including poorly water-soluble compounds.
• Identify vehicles, excipients, and technologies supporting preclinical PKPD, efficacy, and toxicology studies.
• Characterize physicochemical and solid-state properties using HPLC/UPLC, DSC, and XRPD, while developing analytical methods.
• Develop and optimize formulations and manufacturing processes for solid oral dosage forms, including modified-release products.
• Collaborate with external CDMOs and oversee clinical trial material production against development timelines.
• Support CMC sections of IND and NDA filings, technical reports, risk mitigation, and contingency planning.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field with at least 8 years of experience, or a B.S./M.S. with 10+ years of related industrial experience.
• Hands-on experience with pre-formulation, formulation development, process optimization, and instrumental analysis.
• Experience developing small-molecule solid oral dosage forms and working with external CDMOs.
• Clear oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Willingness to travel as needed to support development activities.
