Senior Backend Engineer (Go/Kotlin)

Location: Based in the Helsinki or Stockholm tech hub; fully remote work or relocation may not be supported.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, monitor, and operate backend systems for inventory, purchasing, warehouse operations, pricing, and fulfillment.
• Own technical solutions end to end, from problem definition and architecture through production operation.
• Develop data-heavy systems involving forecasting, optimization, and operational decision-making.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into pragmatic, scalable technical solutions.
• Make architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, delivery speed, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and operations teams while improving engineering standards and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Strong experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems.
• Professional experience with Go, Kotlin, or another modern backend language.
• End-to-end ownership of services, including deployment, monitoring, reliability, and production operations.
• Strong backend and distributed-systems fundamentals, including APIs, databases, asynchronous processing, failure handling, testing, and observability.
• Experience with data-heavy systems and streaming or data infrastructure such as Kafka or Snowflake.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, make technical trade-offs, communicate decisions clearly, and influence technical direction.

Nice to have

• Experience with forecasting, optimization, scheduling, recommendation, or decisioning systems.
• Background in grocery, retail, logistics, supply chain, or warehouse technology.
• Experience with ERP, vendor management, procurement, or workforce management integrations.
• Experience replacing third-party or legacy platforms with internally built systems.
• Experience with high-throughput event-driven or streaming architectures.
