What you will do

  • Own cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives for released medical device products, including BOM optimization, material substitutions, design simplification, and supplier changes.
  • Identify cost drivers through BOM analysis, supplier spend reviews, labor studies, warranty data, field repair data, and service analysis.
  • Lead engineering change activities through SolidWorks while maintaining compliance with ISO, IEC, FDA, and QMS requirements.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, and Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineering on materials, processes, tooling, sourcing, feasibility, and risk.
  • Perform trade studies and apply DFM, DFA, DFC, DFMEA, PFMEA, and root cause analysis to improve cost, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Coordinate validation, testing, phased implementation, savings tracking, and risk communication for cost-driven product changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience supporting manufactured products; medical device or regulated-industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading cost-reduction, value-engineering, or design-to-cost initiatives for released products.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks, as well as PDM systems, BOM management, and issue-tracking tools such as Jira.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, blow molding, machining, sheet metal, welding, wire routing, and assembly.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, applicable IEC standards, FDA design controls, technical risk assessment, root cause analysis, and financial savings analysis.
