Senior Backend Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Remote for eligible candidates in Australia and New Zealand, with sufficient timezone overlap required; engineering teams are based in Sydney and Auckland.

What you will do

• Drive large and complex backend projects autonomously from technical design through launch.
• Define implementation plans and tackle complex architecture challenges.
• Apply architectural standards to new projects and make sound technical decisions.
• Lead code reviews and documentation, including fixes for high-risk bugs.
• Partner with engineering teams on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and transfer expertise across programming languages.

Requirements

• Senior-level software engineering experience with expert-level knowledge of at least one prominent programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, Golang, Python, C#, C/C++, or Ruby.
• Java experience is not mandatory, but the role involves coding primarily in Java and requires the ability to learn new technologies.
• Highly trusted expertise in at least one technical domain and working knowledge across multiple technology domains.
• Experience making customer-focused technical decisions and handling complex architecture problems.
• Passion for collaboration, mentoring, continuous learning, and professional growth.
• Must be eligible to work remotely from Australia or New Zealand with sufficient timezone overlap.
