Senior Software Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; primarily office-based with the New Zealand team. Occasional collaboration with colleagues abroad and on-water testing of prototypes may be required.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain reliable software systems and applications.
• Contribute to technical designs, architecture decisions, code reviews, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver robust products.
• Improve software quality through testing, automation, debugging, and systematic troubleshooting.
• Integrate software, firmware, and hardware as product requirements evolve.
• Mentor junior engineers and help establish engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong software design, development, and debugging skills.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++, plus experience with Make, CMake, and Qt/QML or similar frameworks.
• Experience developing applications for Linux, iOS, Android, and/or Windows, and working with CAN bus.
• Experience with IoT technologies such as ThingsBoard, MQTT, or Mender.
• Hands-on hardware debugging skills, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and reading electronic schematics.

Nice to have

• Firmware development, low-level embedded programming, embedded Linux, or Linux kernel driver development.
• Experience with Zephyr or another RTOS, bootloaders, firmware updates, embedded security, or new hardware bring-up.
• Knowledge of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, TCP/IP, Ethernet, CI/CD, DevOps tools, Docker, and Agile development.
