Senior Cybersecurity & IT Controls Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid, with reporting to a specific location at least 3 times a week in Austin, Texas or Warren, Michigan. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Design, engineer, implement, assess, and continuously improve cybersecurity and IT controls across applications, infrastructure, cloud platforms, SaaS, identity, and data environments.
• Translate NIST, ISO, CIS, SOX, and other requirements into technically feasible controls, guardrails, and reference architectures.
• Enhance controls assurance workflows, GRC tooling, data integrations, and evidence collection across ServiceNow IRM, IAM, logging, cloud security, and other platforms.
• Develop automation, scripts, data pipelines, metrics, and dashboards for continuous control monitoring and data-driven assurance.
• Lead end-to-end control assessments, evaluate technical evidence, identify systemic risks and control gaps, and validate sustainable remediation.
• Partner with Cybersecurity, IT, Finance, engineering, platform, vulnerability management, data protection, third-party risk, and business teams while providing executive-ready risk reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, IT audit, GRC, technology risk, or IT controls assurance.
• Strong understanding of NIST, ISO, CIS, and IT General Controls domains.
• Hands-on experience with controls and security capabilities across cloud platforms, SaaS, identity platforms, and modern enterprise environments.
• Experience with GRC or controls assurance tools such as ServiceNow IRM, and with evaluating configurations, logs, access data, and automated reports.
• Hybrid attendance is required at a specific location in Austin, Texas or Warren, Michigan at least 3 times per week. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

• CISA, CISSP, CRISC, CISM, or CCSP certification.
• Experience with AI, scripting, data analytics, dashboarding, automation, or continuous monitoring for controls reporting.
• Experience in complex global enterprise environments and with ServiceNow IRM integrations across IAM, vulnerability management, logging, and cloud security platforms.
• Supervisory or people-leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, or coordinating others.
