Principal Data Scientist (AI/ML)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead the technical strategy, architecture, and development of advanced AI/ML solutions for complex retail and e-commerce challenges.
• Drive applications of machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and agentic AI at scale.
• Design and productionize scalable solutions, including model evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Influence technical direction across Data Science, Engineering, Product, and Business teams.
• Translate business problems into AI/ML solutions with measurable impact and communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Mentor data scientists and raise technical standards across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with relevant analytics experience.
• Strong expertise in machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, agentic AI, statistics, and scalable production solutions.
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, NLP, computer vision, and MLOps.
• Experience with model validation, deployment, lifecycle management, data management, SQL/NoSQL, data quality, and predictive analytics.
• Technical leadership experience, including defining technical direction, mentoring teams, and driving execution aligned with business objectives.

Nice to have

• Experience in retail or e-commerce.
• Ph.D. in machine learning, computer science, information technology, operations research, statistics, applied mathematics, or econometrics.
• Publications or active peer-review experience in related journals or conferences.
• Experience with Spark, Scala, R, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Torch.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
