Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Rijeka, Croatia; flexible hybrid work model.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot backend services in the Billing domain.
• Build scalable microservices that process and calculate billions of communication interactions.
• Analyze dependencies and interactions across large distributed architectures.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code using software engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Management, engineers, and platform specialists to deliver reliable billing solutions.
• Contribute to monitoring, observability, system reliability, performance optimization, and agile development practices.

Requirements

• Experience developing backend applications in large-scale or distributed environments.
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with concurrent and multi-tier applications.
• Understanding of RESTful services and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience with code reviews, automated testing, and clean code practices.
• Fluent English, spoken and written, is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, and Maven.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MSSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Kotlin, or Python.
• Experience with frontend technologies or collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Slack.
