Senior Database Reliability Engineer (MariaDB)

What you will do

• Scale and tune high-throughput MariaDB clusters to support global expansion.
• Strengthen high-availability, disaster-recovery, and backup procedures.
• Build automation and self-service workflows to reduce manual operational work.
• Improve observability, alert quality, and database security patterns.
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and containerized deployment initiatives.
• Participate in on-call rotations with a focus on preventative engineering.

Requirements

Location: Must be based in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, or the United Kingdom.

• 5+ years of experience operating MariaDB/MySQL in high-volume production environments.
• Strong understanding of high-availability patterns and distributed database behavior.
• Hands-on experience with database proxies or load-balancing layers like HAProxy or ProxySQL.
• Practical experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code workflows.
• Solid fundamentals in Linux, networking, and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with stakeholders and document plans.

Nice to have

• Experience with SRE methodologies such as error budgets or reliability programs.
• Strong programming ability in Python or Rust.
• Hands-on experience with GitOps tooling like ArgoCD or GitHub Actions.
• Exposure to multi-region or disaster-recovery designs.
• Interest in cryptocurrency or decentralized systems.
