What you will do

  • Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing and metrology processes for opto-mechanical assemblies, including star trackers, cameras, and sun sensors.
  • Design tooling for complex lens alignment and lead assembly, integration, and testing of camera sub-assemblies.
  • Collaborate with optical design and cross-functional engineering teams on manufacturability, DFM/DFA, quality, and long-term reliability.
  • Support the production floor by resolving build issues, updating work instructions, and improving yields.
  • Guide opto-mechanical technicians and own optical, vibration, thermal, and other environmental and functional production testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of high-precision opto-mechanical manufacturing experience and optical metrology equipment experience.
  • Knowledge of optical alignment using lasers or collimated light sources, optical assembly tooling, and CNC machining.
  • Mechanical design and GD&T skills using NX and Teamcenter.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain a U.S. export license under ITAR and EAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Space-application experience, including thermal cycling, vibration, TVAC, and space-qualified adhesives.
  • Knowledge of ultra-precision machining, optical alignment instruments, collimation methods, lens setups, and optical tolerance stack-ups.
