Principal Engineer (Architecture)

Location: Fully remote within EMEA, with hiring locations in Romania, Ukraine, Portugal, Spain, Poland, and Estonia. An office option is available in Riga.

What you will do

• Define the future architecture and technical direction for the Merchant Experience pillar.
• Own architectural decisions and review design documentation for alignment with platform strategy and engineering practices.
• Contribute to company-wide engineering strategy and standards through the Architecture Council.
• Guide development teams through implementation with proofs of concept, design explanations, and issue resolution.
• Investigate architecture challenges involving performance, scalability, integrations, and distributed systems.
• Mentor engineers and drive adoption of Domain-Driven Design, architectural guardrails, and coding standards across multiple teams.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including Staff or Principal Engineer, Lead Developer, or Software Architect roles.
• Expert theoretical and practical knowledge of Domain-Driven Design, microservices architecture, and complex domain modeling.
• Strong understanding of data structures, software architecture, design patterns, and distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or another cloud platform.
• Excellent problem-solving, written, and spoken communication skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English is required.

Nice to have

• Expert-level PHP knowledge.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Understanding of front-end technologies.
• Practical experience using LLMs and coding assistants in software development workflows.
