Software Engineer in Test (Robotics)

What you will do

• Develop scalable test infrastructure, automation frameworks, and validation strategies for humanoid robot software.
• Build testing and validation pipelines across embedded devices, middleware services, perception, motion control, and autonomous behavior.
• Identify failure modes and debug complex interactions across software, hardware, and networked systems.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines and automated validation workflows to improve reliability and developer productivity.
• Collaborate with software, middleware, perception, controls, infrastructure, platform, and robotics engineering teams.
• Help establish software quality standards for the 4NE1 software platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, systems-level thinking, and experience building automated test systems and frameworks.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python, with experience in Git and modern software development practices.
• Deep understanding of unit, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing methodologies.
• Experience with distributed software systems, ROS2, DDS, robotic middleware, Linux-based development, observability, logging, and diagnostics.
• Understanding of robotic systems, including sensor integration, calibration, synchronization, state estimation, and motion control.

Nice to have

• Experience with perception systems using cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and force/torque sensors.
• Experience with Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or MuJoCo, as well as Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Loop testing.
• Knowledge of real-time systems and robotics communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CAN, DDS, or OPC-UA.
• Experience with performance, stress, and reliability testing and large-scale automated validation infrastructure.
• Familiarity with safety-related standards and validation processes for robotic systems.
