TL;DR
Software Engineer Intern - Industrialization (Robotics): Developing and deploying Python-based automated test procedures for ANYmal hardware subsystems with an accent on hardware interfaces, measurement reliability, and scalable shopfloor testing. Focus on instrumenting sensors and cameras, defining pass/fail criteria, and building reproducible test workflows for industrial robot production.
Location: Zurich, Switzerland; on-site with regular presence near hardware and the shopfloor. EU applicants must have a residence permit. Non-EU applicants must reside in Switzerland and require a work permit.
Salary: CHF 3,000 per month

What you will do
- Develop, test, and help deploy Python-based automated test procedures for ANYmal hardware subsystems.
- Interface with and control hardware devices, sensors, and cameras through software.
- Define reliable pass/fail criteria and improve testing workflows for the manufacturing shopfloor.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, test technicians, and hardware design teams.
- Write clean, resilient, reproducible code and maintain test documentation and technician procedures.
Requirements
- Ongoing or recently completed BSc or MSc in mechatronics, robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or mechanical engineering.
- Solid Python foundation with projects involving hardware, sensors, or external APIs.
- Hands-on experience with hardware interfaces through university labs, student projects, or personal builds.
- Structured problem-solving skills and interest in tolerances, measurement, and repeatability.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and draft procedures.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to Zurich and commit to regular on-site work.
Nice to have
- Experience with ROS or ROS2.
- Basic knowledge of image processing or computer vision pipelines with OpenCV.
- Exposure to sensor calibration for IMUs, cameras, depth, or thermal sensors.
- Familiarity with Docker or devcontainer environments.
- Experience in student engineering teams such as Formula Student, Swissloop, or ARIS Rocketry.
