TL;DR
GNC Engineer II (Mission Formulation) (Aerospace/GNC): Designing, modeling, analyzing, and testing guidance, navigation, and control solutions for Rocket Lab launches and missions with an accent on orbital and suborbital trajectory design, mission formulation, and flight-code development. Focus on optimizing trajectories, validating systems through hardware-in-the-loop and Monte Carlo simulations, and implementing GNC solutions for Electron and HASTE missions.

Location: Onsite at hirify.global’s global headquarters in Littleton, Colorado, United States. U.S. office candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR.

Base pay range: $115,000–$144,000 USD per year, plus potential stock and cash incentives.

What you will do

  • Provide GNC support to Business Development for proposals and mission definition.
  • Develop launch and mission operational concepts, including orbital and suborbital trajectory designs and analyses.
  • Work with customers and external stakeholders on mission-specific requirements engineering.
  • Document GNC solutions and participate in customer design reviews.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, Monte Carlo simulations, and verification of trajectories, GNC, and flight-code performance.
  • Develop flight code and automate recurring GNC modeling and analysis tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of industry experience in GNC or ADCS.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics and/or closed-loop control systems, preferably for launch vehicles.
  • Experience with trajectory optimization and real-time control or estimation algorithms for autonomous vehicles.
  • Active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and meet applicable ITAR authorization requirements.

Nice to have

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with requirements assessments, interface control documents, Git, and rigid-body dynamics modeling.
  • Python, MATLAB, SciPy, and C/C++ development experience.
  • Experience with POST, ASTOS, TAOS, or similar mission analysis and trajectory optimization tools.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, planning, and independent-work skills.
