Application Security Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, requiring three days per week in the San Francisco office

Salary: $145,000–$180,000 per year, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Partner with software engineers throughout the vulnerability remediation lifecycle, including secure code reviews, false-positive validation, remediation guidance, and threat modeling.
• Drive vulnerability identification with SAST, DAST, SCA, in-house AI tooling, and external penetration testing.
• Support vulnerability management by assessing risk, improving detection, and translating security and privacy requirements into technical requirements.
• Build security awareness through training on secure coding practices, security standards, and current threats.

Requirements

• 5+ years of total experience, including at least 1 year in application security or security-focused development.
• Experience contributing to secure SDLC activities such as threat modeling, code review, security testing, and vulnerability management.
• Programming experience in at least one modern language and one scripting language; experience with C++ or Python, testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines is relevant.
• Experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot for development and security testing.
• Knowledge of current security threats affecting machine learning and generative AI.
• A degree in computer science or a related field, relevant certifications, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Healthcare security knowledge, including HIPAA and HITRUST, and experience with regulated environments or Software as a Medical Device.
• Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud providers, Terraform, Chef, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions.
