TL;DR
GNC Engineer III (Navigation), Eclipse (C++/GNSS): Designing and implementing launch vehicle navigation software and state estimation algorithms with an accent on Kalman filtering, sensor fusion, real-time embedded systems, and hardware-in-the-loop validation. Focus on modeling sensor errors, analyzing nominal and off-nominal flight performance, integrating flight-critical software, and supporting launch operations.

Location: United States eligibility required for ITAR-regulated space technology; U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations is required.

Company

hirify.global develops launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles for government and commercial space missions.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, and tune launch vehicle navigation software for accurate state estimation from launch through orbit.
  • Implement filtering and sensor fusion algorithms using inertial and GNSS measurements.
  • Develop robust navigation systems and conduct covariance analysis, sensitivity studies, and performance optimization.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, flight software verification, system integration, and navigation algorithm validation.
  • Provide technical direction on GNC architecture, mentor junior engineers, and document technical analyses.
  • Operate GNC consoles during launches and perform post-flight analysis to improve vehicle models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience with launch vehicle GNC systems, navigation design, or flight software development.
  • Advanced knowledge of state estimation, Kalman filtering, sensor fusion, covariance analysis, inertial navigation, GNSS processing, and sensor error modeling.
  • Expertise in real-time C++ development for flight-critical applications and experience with high-fidelity sensor models and navigation testbeds.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, requirements verification, version control, documentation, and software testing.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience with custom launch vehicle estimation algorithms, unscented Kalman filters, particle filters, or adaptive estimation.
  • Knowledge of launch vehicle sensors, flight mechanics, attitude dynamics, control theory, and high-fidelity vehicle modeling.
  • Experience with flight software frameworks, real-time operating systems, CI/CD, Python, and mission operations.
  • Publications, presentations, or other contributions to the state of the art, plus experience developing junior engineers.

Culture & Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision plans with low deductibles.
  • Parental leave and short-term disability coverage.
  • Educational reimbursement.
  • Flexible paid time off options.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams on operational spaceflight systems.
