TL;DR
Perception Engineer (Robotics) (Python/PyTorch, lidar/camera): Developing perception features and analytics for autonomous heavy construction equipment with an accent on customer-facing metrics, sensor data, and production robotics. Focus on extending perception signals, measuring productivity and safety across construction sites, re-identifying objects across multiple camera views, and deploying models to machine fleets.

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California; based in the Bay Area with the ability to be onsite at the SF office on a daily or weekly basis.

What you will do

  • Extend, modify, and adapt existing perception signals for customer analytics.
  • Define and scope feasible applications of advanced perception systems with customers.
  • Develop perception features for measuring dig productivity and safety across construction sites.
  • Work with camera, lidar, and other sensor data to support real-world analytics.
  • Deploy models and analytics directly to fleets of autonomous machines.

Requirements

  • MSc or advanced degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional experience shipping perception systems to production, ideally on robotic or embedded platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with a modeling framework such as PyTorch and proficiency in Python.
  • Ability to read and write at least one systems language, such as C++ or Rust.
  • Experience incorporating camera, lidar, and IMU data into learned pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D geometry, sensor calibration, coordinate transforms, camera re-projection, and sensor-data analysis.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with customers to understand perception data and analytics.
  • Experience with Rust.
  • Published work in venues such as ICRA, IROS, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, CoRL, or RSS.
