TL;DR
Energy Aware Media Research Scientist (Video Streaming): Designing energy-efficient algorithms and systems for end-to-end video streaming, including ABR ladder optimization, CDN and edge delivery, network adaptation, and live streaming workflows, with an accent on conventional and learning-based approaches. Focus on developing prototypes, reducing streaming energy costs, contributing to video standards, and solving complex delivery and low-power live streaming challenges.

Location: Rennes, France. Hybrid work arrangement with 3 days per week on-site.

What you will do

  • Identify research opportunities in energy-efficient video streaming, including ABR ladders, CDN and edge delivery, network adaptation, and live streaming.
  • Research, develop, and implement algorithms, methods, prototypes, and reference technologies.
  • Design strategies for energy-aware encoding ladders, CDN caching and routing, and low-power live streaming architectures.
  • Disseminate results through invention disclosures, peer-reviewed publications, tradeshows, exhibitions, and technology reference implementations.
  • Contribute to video standards activities involving MPEG, 3GPP, SVTA, DVB, and ATSC, while collaborating with industry and academic partners.
  • Help supervise interns, PhD candidates, and post-doctoral researchers, with the opportunity to lead dedicated research workstreams.

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, image processing, signal processing, applied mathematics, or a related field.
  • Expertise in conventional and learning-based algorithm development for video streaming, image processing, signal processing, or networking.
  • Publications in related peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Software development skills in Python and C/C++.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, external industry partners, and academic groups.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, written and spoken.

Nice to have

  • Experience with DASH, HLS, CMAF, LL-HLS, LL-DASH, WebRTC, or MoQ.
  • Knowledge of CDN architectures, edge computing, congestion control, or QoE measurement.
  • Experience contributing to MPEG, 3GPP SA4, DASH-IF, or CTA WAVE standards.
  • Experience converting research into inventions, prototypes, and products.
  • French proficiency.
