Head of IT (AI)

Location: New York or San Francisco, United States; hybrid work required

Salary: $180,000–$310,000 per year plus equity

DeployCo is the deployment arm of OpenAI, building enterprise AI transformation solutions and delivering AI-powered systems for large organizations.

What you will do

• Build the IT function from the ground up, including the roadmap, service model, vendor strategy, documentation, metrics, and hiring plan.
• Stand up and administer identity, endpoint management, SaaS, asset management, ticketing, knowledge management, networking, and collaboration systems.
• Design secure onboarding, offboarding, access request, device provisioning, application assignment, approval, and audit workflows.
• Use AI, scripts, APIs, and workflow automation to improve support, provisioning, documentation, incident triage, access reviews, and compliance evidence collection.
• Partner with Security, Engineering, deployment, People, Finance, Legal, and Workplace teams on controls, technical workflows, procurement, and risk management.
• Manage the IT budget and vendors while hiring, coaching, and leading a small hands-on IT team.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience across IT, systems engineering, enterprise technology, infrastructure, security operations, platform operations, or a similar domain.
• Experience building or materially rebuilding IT infrastructure in a startup, high-growth company, new business unit, or similarly ambiguous environment.
• Hands-on expertise with identity platforms, endpoint management, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, Slack, SaaS administration, networking, cloud administration, scripting, and workflow automation.
• Ability to write or debug scripts, connect APIs, inspect logs, configure administrative consoles, and turn manual work into reliable workflows.
• Strong security judgment and experience designing practical, auditable, usable controls.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and willingness to operate as a player-coach.

• Practical experience using AI tools, models, agents, and automation to improve internal operations.
